Originally opened in August 1937, the Uptown Theatre is an Art Deco jewel in downtown Napa designed by father-and-son architects Alexander Aimwell and Alexander MacKenzie Cantin. After decades of decline, real estate developer George Altamura partnered with Francis Ford Coppola and other investors to fund a painstaking restoration that uncovered original Greco-Roman ceiling murals beneath layers of paint. The theater reopened on May 14, 2010, with Big Bad Voodoo Daddy christening the 863-seat room. Since then, Willie Nelson, B.B. King, Emmylou Harris, John Prine, and Merle Haggard have graced the stage, making it Wine Country's premier concert destination.
