The Bayou Bar occupies the ground floor of the historic Pontchartrain Hotel at 2031 St. Charles Avenue, a wood-paneled cocktail lounge steeped in mid-century New Orleans lore. This is the room where the New Orleans Saints football franchise was christened in 1969 and where Frank Sinatra and Truman Capote once held court over whiskey. Today, live jazz musicians perform Tuesday through Saturday in the intimate, tavern-style space, accompanying an extensive whiskey list and Creole-inspired pub fare. The bar's location on the St. Charles streetcar line makes it one of Uptown's most atmospheric spots for an evening of music and cocktails without the Frenchmen Street crowds.
