Opened in 1964 on the site of a former used car lot, the Caravan Lounge started life as one of a chain of bars inside Greyhound bus terminals across California. Original owner Leo Chargin eventually moved it to its own storefront at 98 Almaden Avenue in downtown San Jose, where it has operated continuously for six decades. The 88-capacity room never charges a cover, hosts free live music, karaoke, comedy, burlesque, and DJ nights 365 days a year. It has served as the first-gig venue for countless San Jose bands and remains the city's most enduring dive bar.
