Opened in 2015 inside a former 1940s movie theater at the corner of South First and San Salvador in San Jose's SoFA district, the Ritz occupies a building that has cycled through lives as the Gay Theatre, the X-rated Pussycat, and several nightclubs before sitting vacant for seven years. The 500-standing-capacity room now hosts national touring acts and regional favorites across hip-hop, rock, Latin, electronic, and comedy, with a modern sound system, big-screen projection, and two full bars. Its location in the heart of the SoFA arts district places it alongside galleries, restaurants, and other nightlife. The Ritz has helped anchor the ongoing revival of downtown San Jose's entertainment scene.
