d.b.a. opened in April 2000 at 618 Frenchmen Street after founder Tom Thayer fell in love with New Orleans during Jazz Fest and found a building in the Marigny Triangle to house his vision. One side of the narrow club is a bustling barroom with an extensive spirit selection; the other features a low-slung stage that has showcased brass bands, blues, funk, and everything between for over two decades. The late guitarist Walter "Wolfman" Washington and the Treme Brass Band both held down weekly residencies that became pilgrimages for locals and visitors alike. New owners took over in late 2023, and Thayer's addition of an outdoor stage in the former Frenchmen Street Art Market space expanded the venue's footprint. d.b.a. remains one of the most reliable rooms on Frenchmen for catching a late-night set with no cover on most nights.
